Indiana High School Teacher/Student Juried Exhibition

The Indiana High School Teacher/Student juried exhibition will be held in conjunction with the 4th Biennial Indiana Clay Conference held on October 4-5, 2025, hosted by Ball State University in partnership with Purdue University Fort Wayne. The goal of this exhibition is to highlight the diverse work made by high school teachers working in clay and their students. The exhibition will be juried by Judy Wojcik.
EXHIBITION DATES: Wednesday, September 17 – Sunday, October 5, 2025
AWARDS: The juror will select the following awards: $150 best of show, $100 first place, $75 second place, and $50 third place, as well as honorable mention awards.
ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists who are currently teaching high school in Indiana and one of their students. Teachers should include both images of their own work and the student’s work in the same application, with a total of up to three entries allowed each. The entry form will ask for your Indiana high school.
FEES: No entry fee
SIZE LIMITATIONS: Entry into the gallery space is limited by doors that are 8’ in height by 5’ in width. Accepted work that is complex, large, delicate, or greater than 50 lbs may need to be delivered, set up, and picked up by the artist.
IMPORTANT DATES: Entries can be submitted beginning April 15, 2025. Entries due: Monday, July 7, 2025. Email notifications will be sent to all artists by July 21, 2025. Artwork must be delivered the week of Sept. 8-12, 2025 (no later than September 12). Artists attending the Indiana Clay Conference should plan to pick up their piece(s) on Sunday, October 5, after 4 PM. For those not attending the conference, return shipping to artists will be by Monday, October 13, 2025.
SALES & COMMISSIONS: All participants have the option to list their work for sale; however, The Ned and Gloria Griner Art Gallery will not facilitate sales. Interested buyers will contact the artist directly to make a purchase via a price list made available at the gallery. All sales communications and transactions will be between the buyer and the artist. No commissions will be collected by the gallery.
ENTRY INSTRUCTIONS: Fill out the ENTRY FORM BELOW and push submit at the end.
FILE FORMAT: JPEG only, no larger than 20 MB each. Images must be labeled with the following file names that correspond to your entry numbers: 01_lastname_firstname_title of artwork, 02_lastname_firstname_title of artwork, 03_lastname_firstname_title of artwork (i.e. 01_green_seth_teapot). Digital Photography tip: be sure to take images at the highest quality and avoid excess zooming and cropping.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: All works must be finished and ready for display. Pieces that hang on the wall or from the ceiling should include secure hanging mechanisms. The gallery walls are backed with plywood, and the ceiling can accommodate hanging works up to 50 lbs. Artists should plan to assist with any artworks requiring complex installation.
SHIPPING AND INSURANCE: Artists will be responsible for paying for all shipping costs upfront to and from the gallery. Artists attending the Indiana Clay Conference will pick up their piece(s) on Sunday, October 5, after 4 PM. Artists not attending the conference must include a prepaid return label via FedEx, UPS or USPS in their shipment. Artists are responsible for covering the cost of insurance while the artwork is in transit. Shipped work must be sent in a reusable carton, box, or crate and packed with reusable packing materials and arrive/or be dropped off September 8-12, 2025. The Ned and Gloria Griner Art Gallery will not provide packing materials.
Artist will waive all claims against The Ned and Gloria Griner Art Gallery for any damages, losses or claims to artwork, whether known or unknown, which arise out of participation in the activity. The Artist will release The Ned and Gloria Griner Gallery of Art for damage of artwork regardless of whether or not caused in whole or part by negligence or other fault.

LOAN AGREEMENTS: Will be provided by email with your acceptance notice. Your signed agreement must accompany the artwork or be emailed to (kpreston@bsu.edu) prior to receipt.

About the Juror—Judy Wojkic
Judy Wojcik is an artist educator who was born and raised in Northern Indiana. Judy’s ceramics foundation encompasses both utilitarian vessels and sculpture. Along with taking workshops at Haystack, Arrowmont and Penland Schools of Craft, she has traveled in Japan, China, Germany and the UK. Her ceramics have been in juried exhibitions and published in “500 Teapots Volume 2” and “500 Vases”. Judy was included in the Indiana State Museum’s exhibition and catalog “Whispers to Shouts: Indiana Women Who Create” and she was one of five Indiana clay artists commissioned to create seven vessels for a National Conference of Lieutenant Governors.
Judy’s interest in teaching and ceramics began while attending Washington High School in South Bend, Indiana under the tutelage of Tom Meuninck. In 1983, Judy received her B.S. in K-12 Art Education from Ball State University where she studied with Marvin Reichle and Linda Arndt. She went on to teach K-8 art at North Liberty Elementary/Middle School, Indiana. While there, she received an outstanding teaching award. During this time, she also took classes at the South Bend Art Center studying and teaching with Gundega Penikis. In 1987, she resigned from teaching to begin graduate studies at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania studying with Donna Nicholas and Steven Kemenyffy.
Judy received her MFA Degree in Ceramics in 1989 and in the summer of 1990 returned to BSU to complete course work for a permanent K-12 teaching license. While doing so, she taught a summer session of Ceramics that opened the door to becoming an assistant professor of art teaching drawing, design, sculpture and art appreciation for six years at BSU. In 1996, she took a hiatus from higher ed to explore working in FB Fogg’s papermaking studio, teaching middle school art and assisting John Peterson in his pottery studio. In 1998, she returned to BSU for nine more years of teaching Understanding Art to future teachers. In 2005, she received an Outstanding Art Educator Higher Education Award from the Art Education Association of Indiana and in 2006 an Excellence in Teaching Award from Ball State University. In 2007, Judy began teaching ceramics at Earlham College, Richmond where she is currently an Associate Professor of Art.
